LOGAN RICHARD

Something wild happens in the body when a new partner gives you the tour of where they come from—an excited, elated anxiousness, kind of like a fuzzy coming alive of one’s nerve endings. With the warm and wiry groove of “Feels This Way,” the new single from Logan Richard, the PEI songwriter taps into that feeling.

“Feels This Way” is one of Richard’s first songs written with longtime collaborator Ben Aiken, who he’s been working with since he started making music. Over an impossibly catchy guitar line, Richard sings about taking off to meet his lover’s Francophone mom and fumbling his French; scoping out where she got high for the first time; and getting nervy when she tells him a friend of hers is going to medical school: “Well, I played Operation when I was a kid, so I think I know a thing or two,” he offers with a wink.

When Richard went to do some recording last year, “Feels This Way” remained half-realized. But New Brunswick songwriter David Myles—who Richard frequently plays guitar for live—stepped in to take it to the finish line with a bridge. “We wanted an upbeat sorta Sheryl Crow moment with that acoustic guitar solo,” Richard says.

“Why did nobody tell me that it could feel this way?” he sings on the second chorus. “I’m gonna wanna go back, gonna wanna go back to feeling this way.” “Feels This Way” heralds an exciting new phase—the arrival of Logan Richard. And just like that feeling of next steps in blossoming loves, it leaves you wanting more, too.
